Thursday Things

July 24, 2014 by Jenna

thursday things picnic Two of my friends and I have themed monthly dinners. The themes have ranged from Indian to Pizza to Thai to Crockpot to Seafood. This month’s theme was “Picnic”. We enjoyed salads, sandwiches, and wine on a beautiful Sunday evening in Gold Medal Park then stopped by Izzy’s for dessert. So good. This place is dangerously close to where I live.

I hope you go on a picnic soon. I’m meeting different friends for a picnic next week and am already brainstorming on what I should make. Decisions, decisions, so exciting to think about…

Anywho, here are some things I found on the internets this week and other various thoughts.

  • One day I will have fancy dinner parties and I will need to revert back to this article. Until then I just need to remember that a simple party menu is best, because I sometimes go overboard and stress myself out.
  • Green tea ice cubes! Such a genius idea. As soon as I track down my ice-cube tray (probably buried in my freezer) I am making these and adding them to my morning smoothies.
  • I must be really lucky this summer or something, because on Monday I found out that I won Fork Knife Swoon’s Nespresso giveaway. I AM SO EXCITED! Who wants to come over to drink some espresso? And then go to the gas station to buy some lotto tickets?
  • Yes, yes, yes to all of these things! Let’s all be active and healthy, mmk?
  • It’s Restaurant Week in Minneapolis! I love using it as a good reason to check out a new restaurant (or two) in town. I went to Brasserie Zentral on Monday night. It was delicious! If you live in the area and haven’t gone somewhere yet, you still have tonight and tomorrow! Go make reservations now.

Have a good one. xo

My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s an My open heart surgery was 7 years ago and it’s an anniversary I will never not celebrate.

I carried a lot of trauma with me for a long time. I was nervous for every hike, every workout, religiously checking my heart rate, wondering if this would be the time my heart fails me again. Very dramatic, I know. But I kept at it, doing these things I love to do, working through the fear. Now the intrusive thoughts are few and far between.

So here I am 7 years later, a stronger person both physically and mentally, hanging out at the top of a mountain with my babies after a nice, challenging hike. It’s all I really want.

I’m so grateful for this life and for the people who continue to support me ❤️
